You have been invited to preview a pre-beta version of a new web service based on Higgins. Higgins is a framework that enables users and enterprises to integrate identity, profile, and relationship information across multiple systems.  This demonstration interoperates with the http://IDMashup.org website that was built for the IDMashup conference at Harvard. It also works with the Best Buy, My Virtual Model prototype website that was created for this conference. 

These demonstrations show how information from a Higgins-based service can be anonymously projected onto a web site to provide a more personalized experience, and how you can automatically save and manage information from one web interaction to enrich your future web interactions.   "CloudTripper" provides a significant increase in user convenience as users can enter information once in a base or "Uber" i-card and have it automatically provided to many different sites.  The i-card information can also be used to provide a new level of personalized experience to participating websites.  For example, if a person's profile indicates that they like skiing, then travel sites and alternate reality sites could show them examples of skiing experiences rather some other random choice.

Requirements

This demonstration uses your browser to bring convenience, control and context to your online interactions.

Demo pt1: i-card broker

1. Click on the Higgins icon next to your Firefox location bar.   (Higgins is a species of long tailed Tasmanian mouse.  Higgins helps you to organize the "long tail" of all your personal data. The "mouse" is next to the "house" on your browser bar.) 
2. The takes you to the prototype i-card broker website, where you can manage your data. This website provides a place where you can collect and manage information about your profiles and preferences in the various areas of your life.  It allows you to keep your various "personas" separate to maintain your privacy.   If you enter your basic personal contact information in the personal i-card, you won't need to rekey it or update it each time you visit a website asking for this information.
1. Click on the Personal i-card, My Profile and  
2. Enter your first and last name
3. Enter your postal address information
4. Enter your email address
5. Click on Save at the bottom of the page.

Demo pt2:  i-card broker to IDMashup

You can demo IDMashup to Higgins i-card broker data interoperability by following these steps.

1. If you do not have one already, create an account on the IDMashup.org site by clicking the "Join" link in the upper right corner of http://IDMashup.org .
   
2. Log in to the site and click the "Profile" link in upper right.
   
3. When you open the Profile, the mouse flashes colors to indicate it is communicating with the i-card broker website.  The information you entered in your personal-i-card has been entered into the profile form.
4. Enter  your title and affiliation and click on Save.  After the profile has been updated, the mouse flashes colors to indicate it is sending this new information back to the i-card broker website.
5. Click on the Higgins icon   next to your Firefox location bar.  A browser window will open with your i-card information. Your updated i-card information is now available for sharing with other applications.  A new i-card has been created for the IDMashup.org conference site.
   
6. Select your conference i-card to see your filled-in conference profile.    This information has been saved so that it can be made available whenever you visit this particular site.  (Note that many sites have multiple different places where similar information is requested, or where information could be used to drive an enhanced personal experience.  So the convenience value to the user is greater than simply remembering the data that was only provided once.  For websites that ask visitors to provide the same information multiple times for different processes, this functionality can increase conversion rates and reduce "drop off". 
7. Click on your personal i-card, My Profile and edit .  The new title and affiliation information entered into the conference site is also defaulted as optional data in your base personal information card.  You can select to have this information generally available whenever your personal i-card is used.  Or, if this role information was specific to the conference site, you can choose not to add it to your basic collection of personal information. 
   

Demo pt3: i-card broker to Best Buy/My Virtual Model prototype site

Additional requirement for the My Virtual Model demo

1. The My Virtual Model 3D features require a My Virtual Model Windows only plugin.  To install this plugin, navigate to  http://higgins.mvm.com and click on Best Buy Kitchen Room Planner Experience.  Click on Design your Own Room, click on OK to install the 20-20 Technologies Player.

This Best Buy My Virtual Model (MVM) scenario demonstrates anonymous personalization.  The goal of this scenario is to demonstrate how data stored in your i-card can be used to personalize a web experience without asking you to sign-in or authenticate. The example uses the MVM 3D kitchen.

1. Click on the Higgins icon next to your Firefox location bar.    
2. Update the pre-created “Customer” i-card to reflect current shopping goals. (Click on the Customer i-card, My Profile and  
3.  Relevant settings are:
   1.       Preferred Kitchen Appliance Brand (specify GE)
   2.       Preferred Kitchen Appliance Colour (specify Stainless look)
   3.       Kitchen Wall Colour (specify Orange) 
   4.       Click on save
4. Navigate to http://higgins.mvm.com and click on scenario 1
5. Click on Home and Appliances in the center of the Best Buy blue bar near the top of your screen.
6. Click on Side by Side under Refrigerators.
7. Click on 3D Kitchen One-Click-Try  (If the 3D Software has problems on your machine, just close the error message and try again.) 
8. See how "GE" and "stainless look" were defaulted into the Best Buy site and used to drive the 3D picture.  (The 3D software takes a few seconds to load.) 
9. Close the 3D window and click on the Higgins icon  next to your Firefox location bar.  
10. Higgins notices this is a Higgins RSS-P enabled site, and dynamically generates a Best Buy i-card.  Click on the Best Buy i-card, My Profile and  to see the information that defaulted into the new i-card.  
11. Click on your personal i-card, My Profile and.  You can select some of the information you entered to be your new default values.                

Repeating or deinstalling this demo 

This demonstration shows what it is like to use Higgins for the first time.  To repeat the process (e.g. delete all your information in the i-card broker website, click on Tools, Options, Privacy, Passwords, View Saved PassWords button, then select http://broker.parityinc.net, click on remove, click close, click OK.

Since this is a prototype, you should deinstall the Higgins browser extension when you are finished by clicking on Tools, Extensions, Higgins 0.5.1 and uninstall.
