Purpose
A Community Information Commons (CIC) is a “generative space" [note i] for empowered exchange of community and economic resources. The CIC is a “trust federation" [note ii] enabling trusted data sharing to enhance the ability of individuals to form relationships and self-organize around shared interests and values.
Goals
Our goal is to create software infrastructure that individuals, communities, groups, associations and organizations can use to:- Discover people, groups, organizations and communities based on shared affinities.
- Search social and inter-organizational networks for people and other groups.
- Share community resources through shared directories and calendars.
- Protect individuals by empowering them to own and control their identity data
- Provide a trusted, spam-free venue for commercial/financial transactions (offers and requests) between customers and suppliers (acting both individually and collectively).
- Build strength and capacity through deeper, more trusted relationships, shared resources and the ability for large scale coordinated action
